The Circle, a cul-de-sac off Wordsworth Avenue, now has the full service of waste collection including recycling facilities as result of quick action by Labour Councillors Robin Turner and Baggy Shanker. For a long time the quality of service had become reduced because of difficulties of access but Robin and Baggy’s requests and suggestions to the Environmental Services Section have now resulted in the delivery of a good service to residents of The Circle.

PLAY AREAS SAVED

Earlier this year the Council announced 10 play areas would close in Derby and two of these were the Play Area at Sinfin Moor Park and the Play Area at Sinfin Rec on Sinfin Lane.

Together we launched a petition to save these valued play areas in Sinfin. With the tremendous help from residents and local businesses over 1400 signed the petition. This petition was handed to the Council and they were asked to take into account the concern of Sinfin’s residents and the impact on young children.

We are absolutely delighted that we have convinced the Council to confirm plans for a completely new Play Area to be built on Sinfin Moor Park before the old area is de-commissioned. This will be a modern safe area for families to enjoy and we are hoping that we can get agreement for a BMX track to be built on the Park.

It has now also been confirmed that the closure planned for the Play Area on Sinfin Rec has also been reconsidered and the Play Area will remain open. This is good news for local families and we are now going to work to secure funding for the equipment to be upgraded.

By working with local residents we can make a difference on important local issues. We would like to thank everybody who has been involved in this successful campaign and hope we can continue working together to improve the Sinfin Neighbourhood.

Please do contact us with any issues that we could support you on. We are currently running two further petitions one to save public toilets from closure and the other to protect Sinfin Moor Lane from through traffic. Please contact us if you would like to sign these or join the campaigns.
