Robin Turner and Baggy Shanker highlighted the threats to the play areas in Sinfin Ward from the Liberal Democrat Council Cabinet member responsible for play areas.
These essential facilities are valued by Sinfin Ward people and residents. In support of the residents Robin and Baggy their Labour Councillors started a petition with the encouragement from the Neighbourhood Forum. The petition requests the continuation of the facilities and their improvement. 1100 signatures were obtained with the enthusiastic support of the residents.
The petition is now with the City Council, A resident asked a question at the Council Meeting about how it selected the areas for closure and she received an evasive and untrue answer from the Liberal Democrat Cabinet member.
The campaign IS CONTINUING and Robin and Baggy thank the residents for their commitment and activity on this subject

Believe it or not the Liberal Democrats want to close the ten of the public toilets in the City! Labour has launched a campaign to stop them. The mad plan would close the Assembly Room toilets when the new bus station opens. All the people who used the toilets on a recent Saturday morning said that is unacceptable and one lady told us that she would “be in a mess if the City centre facility closed”.
The Liberal Democrats’ priority vision for the city consists of removing essential facilities such as play areas and toilets. It is interesting that they did not dare mention the possible use of the QUAD’s creative arts toilet facilities.
Highways priorities

The state and alignment of the footways in Victory Road and the Carriageway in Sinfin Lane remain as your Labour Councillor’s (Robin Turner and Baggy Shanker) priorities and they recommended these to the Sinfin Neighbourhood Board. The Highways and Transport Section of Derby City Council however limits each Ward’s Neighbourhood Board to one priority only. Please let us know if you have any pavement or road concerns in your area.
Neighbourhood Agenda

Labour’s policy of involvement of local people is ensuring that the Sinfin and Osmaston Neighbourhood Forums and their Board are heard and taken notice of by the Council and its partners such as the police and Derby City Primary Care Trust.
They are being obliged to focus on the priorities residents have determined at Forum meetings in the two areas. The Neighbourhood Board is attended by Councillors Robin Turner and by Councillor Baggy Shanker who chairs the Forums and the Board. The three Neighbourhood Team officials dedicated exclusively to Sinfin Ward include one who deals with antisocial behaviour. Another official deals with that subject for the Osmaston and Allenton areas.
Ten residents form the core of the Board which is supported by Derby Community Safety Partnership and it is attended by police and Derby City Primary Care Trust officials. The Board is able to define Sinfin Ward people’s priorities to the Council and other agencies, holds a budget for projects in the area and it works closely with community based organisations in Osmaston such as Action Group Osmaston and Sinfin Together Partnership.
This new agenda was created by Labour at local and national government and represents a transformation or revolution in the relationship between local people and their local and national governments. Baggy and Robin are ensuring its success and further development.
Robin and Baggy are reviewing the actions of the Liberal Democrat Council Cabinet to check that in their “wisdom” they do not undermine in any way these very important rights that were given to the people through the Sinfin and Osmaston Neighbourhood Board.
